“Hans-Joachim Bohlmann became known in the 1980s as the "Dürer assassin". After his wife fell from a window while cleaning on 11 March 1977 and succumbed to her injuries on 23 March 1977, Bohlmann began deliberately damaging paintings and other works of art in museums, art galleries, parks, churches and cemeteries. Between 1977 and 1988, Bohlmann damaged a total of over 50 works of art. The damage he caused is estimated at around 130 million euros.”
